Quick update

I plan to update the work samples section as soon as time allows. In the mean time, I will post some overviews and examples from my last year of work.

Melior

The Melior brand was developed to encompass several new product developments in LED based automotive lighting. The brand requirements were as follows:

  • Evoke technical competence, efficient product designs, and an overall “corporate” feeling
  • Symbolize an illuminated LED
  • Somehow incorporate “hidden” links to God
  • Establish the brand as the premier competitor in the market
  • Able to be trademarked withing the automotive lighting industry

I chose the word “Melior”, which is Latin for “make simple” or “simply done”. It also contains the name “Elior”, which in Hebrew means “my God is my light”. I chose Futura for its clean, modern sophistication. Bulding on the round shape of the capital “O”, I used a simple starburst and bright color, as well as an overlap of the adjacent letters, to symbolize an illuminated LED. I added the tagline “Simply Better.” to reinforce the connection with design simplicity, and to establish the premium position of the brand within the market.

A big challenge to the rollout of the brand was the lack of product imagery. Due to external constraints, a trade magazine ad and a website had to be published before products were available for photography. I decided the best approach would be a “teaser” campaign, lasting 30 to 60 days, dependent upon product availability.

I developed this ad (PDF) as the introduction of the brand and its flagship product: an LED coachlight that featured the industry’s first lifetime warranty. In connection with the teaser ad, I developed a small website that gave a bit more information, and allowed interested parties to sign up for further updates.

Current work

Right now, I’m working hard trying to finish a massive project. Infinite has no inventory management package to speak of (they have a proprietary database app that is completely isolated). While developing a new e-commerce website and CMS for the Limousine division to go along with the new identity (by yours truly), I’ve been forced to “fake” a back-end inventory system. Read more…

Expanding horizons

Believe it or not, I’ve been spending a majority of my time working on print design! Although I don’t consider myself a graphic designer, I seem to be better at it than anyone else Infinite so I’ve taken over most of the work. I’ll try to get a few samples posted soon.
